This project actually came about thanks to a customer that I had just finished another project for. They were so happy and impressed with a small round table I had created for them, they ask if I could take a look at a porch swing before I left. The swing was built buy someone else years before, but the finish was very rough. The swing surface was very rough to touch with sharp ridges and uneven textures. I originally did not want to take on another project as I was moving soon, but I felt obliged to help a disabled fellow woodworker out. Taking a sample piece back to the shop I played around to see if I could get a piece smooth by removing the old finish and sanding it down. Then reapplying new stain and lacquer finish. They were happy with the test piece and I took the rest of the swing to the shop, completely disassembled, refinished and reassembled. While it was more work than I was wanting to do, it definitely helped add to my portfolio of skills.
